Here we go again.
Les White has embarked on another motorsport undertaking, this time on 4 wheels. FormulaSL is the latest in the RaceSL constellation of projects, an open-wheel racing series modeled on Formula One.
My MotoSL team boss, Korbin King, decided to run an OMG Magazine team of FormulaSL cars, so I’m giving it a go. My OMG teammate in MotoSL, Mistina Vavoom, opted not to drive in this series, so I talked Silk Bamboo into joining me on the OMG team. Silk finished second in the MotoSL championship last season, and was instrumental in taking Thorn Blackflag’s Red Wings to the team championship in that series, beating out OMG by a scant 8 points. If you can’t beat ‘em, invite them to join you! In the spirit of total assimilation, we’ve also enlisted Thorn as our backup driver. Resistance is futile!
We’ve had a few test races already, on Mooz and Snowpeach, using prototype versions of the car. I did ok, so I guess I’ll have to stop wearing my “Cars Suck” t-shirt. With Silk on board, I think the OMG team has every chance to put on a good show in FormulaSL.
Five cars from different builders are currently homologated for the series. We chose the tidy Nori F1 by Vincent Nacon, and last night Vince applied our team colors and sponsor logos to the two cars. I can’t wait to find them in the rezzers at the tracks! Here’s the coming-out party, a design session on the deck outside the Revolutionary Tides gallery on Hotgates.
Contemplating the Nori F1: team owner Korbin, drivers Moto and Silk, and car designer/builder Vincent ponder a blank canvas.

We’re making some progress, so it’s time to dress accordingly. Matching driving suits!

Vincent is texturing, I’m “supervising”. One car is done, one to go. Note empty chairs…

And there they are! Silk’s number 24 car is in the foreground, my number 34 behind. Since we didn’t wrap this up until 4am, Korbin and Silk missed the final act. Sensible folk.
Update: the cars are in the rezzers. See you at the track!
Update redux: Um, no they aren’t. Oh, well… maybe next week.
